Executive Director, STEMnetX (a STEM initiative of CCL-US)
Dr. Bala is a distinguished physics professor and researcher. Teaching at major universities across the Northeast, she has always had a passion for helping students find experiential learning opportunities in their respective fields while continuing to educate and mentor.

Jay Bala oversees the operations of STEMNetX and leads all tech efforts of the organization. She has several years of experience in various technology fields and has a great passion for all things tech.
REBECCA CALLAWAY
Program Manager, STEMNetX (a STEM initiative of CCL-US)
Rebecca brings a diverse background in education, science, and the arts to STEMNetX. She has experience as an adjunct music instructor at the University of Mary Washington and has worked with the Department of Defense Education Activity. With academic degrees in Applied Physics and Music Technology & Performance, she offers a unique blend of technical expertise and creative innovation, supporting STEMNetX’s mission through interdisciplinary thinking and program development.
NATHAN SMITH
Mars Rover Engineering Intern
Nathan is a Mechanical & Electrical Engineering student at the University of Pittsburgh with a strong passion for robotics and emerging technologies. He has experience in control systems design, mathematical modeling, and PCB design. Nathan is currently developing a replica Mars rover and is also contributing to a VR Mars rover project, where he is working on the Bluetooth interface that connects the physical rover to the virtual environment. He is dedicated to advancing this project and creating an engaging, hands-on learning experience.
ANGELINA MADONNA
Mars Education Intern
Angelina is a junior at Lycoming College, double majoring in astrophysics and Spanish. She previously served as a research assistant with Louisiana State University’s LIGO group, gaining hands-on experience in astrophysics research. On campus, she is an active leader as president of the Society of Physics Students. She plans to pursue a master’s degree in mechanical engineering with the goal of a career in space exploration. Through STEMNetX, Angelina is excited to further develop her science, communication, and leadership skills while continuing to engage with her passion for astronomy and discovery.
MAISON CALLAWAY
Social Media & Marketing Intern
Maison serves as the Social Media and Marketing Intern at STEMNetX, bringing a strong passion for health, fitness, and lifestyle development. Currently pursuing personal training and nutrition coaching certifications through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, Maison aims to help individuals build sustainable, healthy habits through proper nutrition and exercise. As a competitive bodybuilder and powerlifter, Maison brings experience in strength training, exercise science, and nutrition, along with a growing social media presence that supports STEMNetX’s outreach and engagement efforts.
Shivron Sugrim
STEM & Robotics Volunteer
Shivron Sugrim, PE, is a Gas Systems Planning Engineer who brings technical expertise and creativity to STEMNetX, supporting Arduino-based robotics, engineering workshops, and events. He is also contributing to the VR Mars rover experience by designing the Mars environment in Unity to create an immersive learning platform. Passionate about hands-on education and mentorship, Shivron enjoys Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu, salsa, hiking, and motorcycle riding, and spends his downtime watching space content or comedies.
BING GAO
Education Consultant and Volunteer
Bing Gao has a Ph.D. in Education. She envisions a world where talent in STEM is defined not by background but by opportunity. She is excited about create pathways to ensure that access is inclusive, transformative, and sustainable for all. Her skill sets include but not limited to Advising & mentorship, Research & analysis, Technology & tools, Communication&collaboration. Motivated by her commitment to education, she draws upon her diverse background to add depth and value to the STEMNetX team!
