Mariam Owusu
Mariam Owusu has had the unique experience of growing up in 10 different states and three countries as a military child, which has shaped her perspective on diverse cultures. As a first-generation Ghanaian-American, she has passionately advocated for equity and inclusion in every aspect of her life. Currently a first-year student at Washington & Jefferson College, Mariam is pursuing her goal of studying Engineering and Public Policy.
She is actively involved in a variety of campus organizations, including Model UN, Mock Trial, SAACs (Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society), and the Pre-Law Society. As the founder and president of the STEM Advocacy Alliance, a club dedicated to connecting underrepresented minorities in science, Mariam fosters a supportive community for students in STEM fields. She also volunteers frequently to promote scientific outreach, communicating the importance of scientific discovery to underprivileged communities.
A dedicated leader, Mariam has directed and led initiatives aimed at promoting STEM education and civic engagement. Her long-term goal is to become a patent lawyer and create public policy that advances digital governance and inclusive STEM education.
